Walking Buses and BikeIT!
Did you know that the week of 21st May is national Walk to School Week? We will be encouraging you and your children to walk to school that week. We will be competing with other schools in Bury to try to win the “Golden Boot” for the most pupils to walk to school.
Following the Walk to School Week we will be launching our first route for our Walking Bus. Details of the first route will be sent out shortly.
The idea is that children will meet their adult “drivers” at certain points along a route and walk to school picking up other pupils at designated bus stops. We are hoping that more children will join the Walking Bus and that more routes can be provided when more adult volunteers can be recruited.
Each child and adult will wear a high visibility tabard while using the bus. The adult volunteers will be trained and CRB checked in line with our safeguarding policy. Please support the Walking Bus initiative. We have also asked to be included in Bury’s Bikeit! Scheme for Y5 pupils which involves the pupils in a number of biking events. A number of activities are planned for the week of 9th July. Details to follow.

Sun Awareness
The sun isn’t just a danger when we holiday in hotter countries, here in the UK exposure to the sun is also a risk. As the summer approaches I would like to remind parents & carers to send in sun hats and protective cream.
Hats and cream should be clearly labelled and I would grateful if parents would show their children how to apply the cream. It is difficult for class teachers to apply sun cream on 30 children when each child may have to use a different cream so it is helpful if the children can be independent in this.
On very hot days it would be useful if children also apply cream, before they set off for school. We will be sending out a booklet entitled “My Passport to the sun” shortly. The idea is for children to use them with their parents to learn about sun safety.
Labelling Clothes
We have an expanding lost property box. Please could parents make sure that ALL clothes, particularly jumpers are named.
School Start Times
To comply with Health & Safety regulations and insurance, children should not be left unsupervised in the school playground before 8.50am. Staff will supervise from 8.50am—9.00am.
Summer Activities
Bury Children’s Information Service produce a number of booklets with activities for children over the summer holidays.
The booklet “Out and About” lists places to visit such as cinemas, outdoor pursuits, karting, leisure centres, museums and nature and wildlife parks.
For your copy phone 0800 731 4611 or log on to www.childreninbury.org
Before And After School Club
Children should not be brought to school before 8am, staff and premises are not insured before this time. We would also ask that if parents arrive for breakfast club after 8.45am they do not use the car-park.
Parents should escort their child to the door, hand them to a member of staff and sign the attendance sheet. Please could parents make sure when they collect from after school club that they sign their child out. This is particularly important in case there is a fire drill.

Our school nurse, Val Rickell, is now based at Windsor House, Hollins Brook Park, Pilsworth. Her new contact number is 0161 762 3296
