October 2008 Newsletter
As half term approaches we can reflect on a very busy half term.
We enjoyed welcoming our Reception Class into school by presenting them with pictures of themselves from their Y6 buddies. We also enjoyed two excellent class assemblies from our Y5 and Y6 classes who entertained us all with their “Fashion through the ages” and “Dinosaur” assemblies.
Y5 and Y6 have been on trips this half term to enhance their work in history and science.
Y6 visited the air raid shelters in Stockport to gain an understanding of life in World War II whist Y5 visited Philips Park to do pond dipping as part of their work on habitats.
In PE, Y4 have completed their intensive swimming programme and Y3 and Y2 have enjoyed their karate sessions with David Woo. Y2 and Y5 have also benefited from the expertise of a dance coach. Y5 will take part in a Dance Festival with other schools at Radcliffe Civic hall in November.
Y5 and Y6 have also had coaching in hockey this half term. This included a hockey tournament at Castlebrook High School earlier this week. Our Y6 pupils did us proud finishing second overall. Well done to everyone who took part and represented our school so well.
Next half term Y4 will be having a cricket coach for PE.
PTA
We held our Glitterball Discos which raised over £450 for our PTA fund. We are hoping to use the money raised through the PTA this year to equip our school hall with new large equipment such as wall bars for our PE lessons.
Orders are currently being taken for school calendars. Please make sure all orders are received for Monday 3rd November.
Half Term
School closes today (Thursday 23rd October) for half term. We return to school on Monday 3rd November
Safeguarding Statement
Unsworth Primary School is committed to the protection and safety of its pupils. Due to their day to day contact with individual children during school terms, teachers and other school staff are particularly well placed to observe outward signs of abuse, changes in behaviour or failure to develop.
If any parent or carer has any concern regarding the protection and safety of a child please contact Mrs. Reynolds who is the designated teacher for Child Protection.

This is a change from the original date.

M & M Productions
This theatre company will be performing ‘Beauty & the Beast’ for all our children on Thursday 20th November. We will be asking for a £1 donation towards the £550 cost. The PTA have agreed to pay the shortfall.
Despite regular reminders some parents persist in bringing their cars into the school car park and onto Blackley Close.
Some residents have reported to us that cars have parked across their drive preventing them from getting in and out of their own driveways.
This is frustrating for the residents and also causes bad feeling which is directed at the school.
More seriously, it is also posing a risk to our children who have to cross near parked cars and to parents who have to wheel prams into the road in order to get by the cars.
Please do not bring your car onto the car park unless you have permission from the Headteacher.
The registration numbers of cars causing a nuisance will be passed
on to the police.
Please consider using the Walking Bus, or at the very least, park further away to avoid congestion near to school.
For further information on the Walking Bus contact the coordinator, Mrs Thurm, at school.
