September 2006 Newsletter
Welcome Back
Welcome back everyone to a new school year. We hope you had
an enjoyable summer holiday.
We have welcomed many new faces to school this week including
our new Reception Class. They have settled into school life
very well!
We have also welcomed Mr. Rhodes, our new Y4 teacher and Mrs.
Crompton, our new teaching assistant. We hope they will enjoy
being part of our school community.
On Wednesday 20th September we will hold our special “Welcome
Assembly” when we officially welcome all children new to
the school. If your child is new to school you are invited to
attend the special assembly which is always a lovely occasion.
The assembly starts at 9.10am in the school hall and lasts
for about half an hour. Refreshments will be available
after the assembly for anyone able to stay.
Each class teacher will be sending out a “Welcome “ letter
in the next week which will inform you of things such as homework,
PE etc. If you have any queries not covered by the letter please
do not hesitate to talk to your class teacher on the yard first
thing.
Mrs. Reynolds
Reminders - School Dinners
From September 2006 dinner money has increased
to £1.65
per day—£8.25 per week. Please ensure dinner money
is sent in a sealed envelope clearly marked with your child’s
name. Cheques should be made payable to Bury MBC.
Reminders - School Car Park
Please remember for safety reasons parents should not
use the
school car park unless they have written permission from
the Headteacher.
If you drive into the car park and down Blackley Close at
the beginning or end of the day you are posing a risk to
our children.
Whilst we work on road safety with the children they do
not always take care on Blackley Close so please avoid
parking there . Please keep the corner of Chadderton
Drive and Parr Lane clear so that the Crossing Patrol has
a clear view down both roads.
School Governor Vacancies
Have you received the information about the vacancies for 5
new parent governors?
Please consider putting yourself forward.
It is a real opportunity to get fully involved in the education
and care of our children. Contact Mrs. Lancashire for a nomination
form.

term:

How Will School Be Providing PPA Time For Teachers This Year?
From September 2005 teachers have been entitled to guaranteed
time for planning, preparation and assessment (PPA time). This
works out at 10% of the school day—approximately 2.5 hours
a week.
The following arrangements have been put into place both to
ensure that we meet the requirements of the remodelling agreement
but more importantly to ensure we provide high quality teaching
and learning experiences for our pupils.
PPA time will be provided for each class in the following ways:
YR Mrs Moseley will teach YR on Tuesday afternoon
Y1 and Y2 We have secured further funding to continue the work
started last year with our partner schools in the Music
Collaborative. This means that we welcome back our specialist
music teacher, Miss Katie Geelan. She will teach at Unsworth
each Wednesday and will teach Y1 and Y2.
Y3 and Y4 Miss Helen Binns (Le Club Francais) will continue
to teach French to Y3 and Y4. The lessons will take
place on Friday mornings. Mrs Porter and Mr Brown will also
take Y3 or Y4 for one of their science lessons.
Y5 and Y6 A specialist sports coach has been appointed
to teach Y5 and Y6 for part of Friday afternoon.
